Rocky Mountain High:AT goes big!
When it comes to slope style and big hits, Andrew Taylor is in a class unto himself. Marin’s high flyer, who rides an Alcatraz and Attack Trail, recently sent me this little video clip of him pulling a massive air off one of the stunts at this year’s Winterpark, CO Crankworx event. I was scared and puckered up just watching his roll in on a corkscrew feature, let alone the gargantuan gap he clears. Check out this short GoPro clip of AT gettin’ er done! Remember kids, don’t try this at home!

There and Back Again
In 1771 the Portola Expedition, a Spanish mission to explore the upper regions of California, stood on the very same spot that we did at the conclusion of our Bay Area Ridge Trail adventure. Similar to our bike journey, which was the first time that a majority of the Bay Area Ridge Trail system had been ridden by bike, the Portola Expedition was the first recorded land entry and exploration of the greater Bay Area. On our quest we covered 214 miles of Bay Area Ridge Trail, climbed 30, 876 ft of vertical, spent 48 hours on the bike, burned around 17,000 calories and visited 25 different Bay Area parks. Although not as grand as discovering the Bay Area for the first time like Portola did, our journey was rewarding in its own unique way because we drew awareness to this amazing trail system that sits at the fingertips of the over 9 million people who call the Bay Area home. If you want to see what some Marin residents had to say about our journey, all of which was on legal trails, check out this article that ran in the Marin IJ.
