Tonight was the last race of the local short track series put on by Bike Monkey. With the series now at a close I’m stoked to say I took the win
tonight and the overall. The Wednesday night sort tracks have been great for me to throw down some hard hot lap efforts in preparation for upcoming races. With the overall locked up before the race they did a nice informal award on the start line. I received some cool stuff; I really appreciate their handmade trophies.
Short track is now at a close and next up is SoNoMas out at Lake Sonoma this coming weekend. I feel my preparation has been good and I’m ready to put down a hard ride this weekend. The course is fairly long with a bunch of climbing; times are expected to be in the three+ hour range. To wear a pack, or not to? That’s just about all I am undecided on for the race.
Part of my preparation for this event was a race a few weeks back, the Howell Mountain Challenge. I raced single speed out there, first time all year! It was really fun to get back on the single speed in a race situation. I managed to stay in the front group with the geared guys for most of the first lap until we hit the first sustained steep climb, but took the win in my category by a comfortable margin. Since I hadn’t raced on a single speed this year and training on one seldom after winter I woke the morning after the race sore and drained. It all
came from the one steep long climb on the course where I was flexing my whole body to turn over my stout gear.
I had a great time out at Howell and an awesome time the whole summer out at the short track races. Check back soon for some words on SoNoMas!
