For over 30 years, Marin Bikes has searched for perfection in our mountain bikes. Years have been spent riding, learning, and searching for the ultimate suspension design that could break down the barriers that define our rides. We found a technology partner in Naild that shared our quest for suspension perfection, and that’s when things got interesting.

The full unidirectional carbon Wolf Ridge is built around the revolutionary 160mm travel Naild R3ACT – 2 Play suspension system, producing a bike that has the widest range of climbing to descending efficiency on the market, making it so you no longer have to compromise on suspension travel in search of pedaling efficiency. Countless late nights in the engineering department and early morning trail sessions combined to unlock mountain bike suspension perfection.

In development for nearly five years, we designed the Wolf Ridge utilizing biometric data for the perfect rider fit, applied physics for ideal kinematics based on the rider’s center of gravity, and the desire to create a bike that addresses the holy grail of mountain biking — a full suspension rig that doesn’t make you miss your hardtail on the climbs, and one that you can confidently point towards technical singletrack for the descent. The Marin Wolf Ridge is one bike to rule all of the trails that you love to ride.

The Wolf Ridge defines a paradigm shift in thinking that will force the rest of the market to take notice:

Where travel does not define category

Where a bike can climb and descend equally well

Where a bike can be at home in any terrain, with any rider – through the fast and flowy, or the rough and tumble

Where the mountain bike experience is mind-blowing

The Wolf Ridge was developed to be the most well rounded mountain bike on the market. The frame is engineered and built durable enough for trail and enduro use, while being light enough for cross-country riding; Component spec follows suit. The Wolf Ridge was not designed, and is not equipped, for downhill racing or bike park use.

NAILD R3ACT – 2 PLAY SUSPENSION TECHNOLOGY

Acting on Newton’s Third Law that “for every actionthere is an equal and opposite reaction,” this systemprovides unparalleled pedaling efficiency and bump compliance through a unique four-bar design and sliding suspension element. Naild’s R3ACT – 2 Play system uses an advanced kinematic that establishes a greater balance in load stabilization, minimizing unwanted energy losses.

BIOMETRIC GEOMETRY & RIDE BALANCE

Marin uses biometric fit data based on statistics of people’s body proportions, to develop the proper fit and weight distribution on each size of the Wolf Ridge. Using this data, we created four bike sizes that put each rider in the optimum position so that the center of gravity is the same for all sizes of people for balanced suspension kinematics, no matter the rider.

GROUND TRACING

At the heart of the Marin Wolf Ridge resides the super-fast action of the Naild R3ACT – 2 Play system that allows the rear wheel to follow the contours of the trail, providing the rider improved wheel contact and loading. Increasing the time that the wheel is on the ground not only guarantees maximum control over terrain, it also increases efficiency by allowing the bike to ultimately recover the energy off the backside of bumps.

FORWARD PROPULSION

One of the greatest and unexpected gifts that the Naild system provides is the gain in natural forward momentum, provided by the Ground Tracing element over rough terrain. The almost mechanical cheating assistance of the system pushing off the backside of every imperfection recovers energy and gifts the rider improved efficiency.

Suspension set up

The core values of the R3ACT – 2 Play suspension kinematics work different than any other system on the market today. The sag can be set between 20-30% of shock travel, allowing the rider to fine tune the ride height based on terrain. Steep and technical climbs can be tackled with less sag (20-25%) for better weight distribution as well as total suspension travel, while increasing the sag (25-30%) lowers the bottom bracket and slackens the head tube angle, for better downhill control. The total ride height variation is 16mm from 20% to 30% sag, giving the Wolf Ridge a ride tunability advantage over the competition.
